Q: How do I join the beta?

Q: The app won't launch!
A: This may be a beta-specific issue. Try the following
- Confirm macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later
- System Settings → Privacy & Security → Click "Open Anyway"
- Check your TestFlight app for the latest beta version
- If the problem persists, report the issue
Q: Is it really free?
A: Yes! Chimr is completely free during the beta period. Pricing for the official release is still being determined.
Q: Which macOS versions are supported?
A: Chimr requires macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later.
Q: Does it work with all calendar apps?
A: Yes! Any calendar that syncs with macOS Calendar app works - iCloud, Google, Outlook, Exchange, etc.
Calendar & Events
Q: Which calendar services are supported?
A: Chimr works with any calendar that syncs with the native macOS Calendar app, including
- iCloud Calendar
- Google Calendar
- Microsoft Exchange/Outlook
- CalDAV servers
- Any calendar accessible through macOS Calendar.app
Q: Can I select specific calendars?
A: Yes! In Settings → Calendars, you can
- Choose which calendars to display
- Select which calendars trigger notifications
- Have different calendars for viewing vs. notifications
Q: Why do some events show a lock icon?
A: The lock icon indicates read-only events. These are typically
- Events from subscribed calendars
- Events you don't have permission to edit
- Events from shared calendars with view-only access
Q: How do I see event attendees?
A: Click on any event in the event list to open the event details popover. It shows
- All attendees with their response status
- Your attendance status
- Organizer information
Notifications
Q: Can I customize notification timing?
A: Yes! In Settings → Notifications, you can
- Set alert time from 1-60 minutes before events
- Enable/disable all-day event notifications
- Filter by video meetings only
- Set attendance-based filtering
Q: What's the "video meetings only" option?
A: When enabled, Chimr only notifies you about events containing video meeting links (Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Webex). Perfect for remote workers!
Video Meetings
Q: Meeting join button doesn't appear?
A: Check the following
- Verify event contains meeting URL
- Confirm it's a supported service URL (Zoom, Meet, Teams, Webex)
- Check if it's within 15 minutes before event start
Q: Meeting join button doesn't work?
A: Try these steps
- Check default browser settings
- Verify meeting app (Zoom etc.) is installed
- Manually copy URL and open in browser
Menu Bar Display
Q: Menu bar icon doesn't appear?
A: Follow these steps
- System Settings → Control Center → Menu Bar Only
- Turn off "Automatically hide menu bar"
- Verify sufficient space in menu bar
Q: Can I customize the menu bar display?
A: Yes! In Settings → General, you can choose
- Icon only (minimal)
- Full event info (detailed)
MCP Integration
Q: What is MCP?
A: MCP (Model Context Protocol) allows Claude Desktop to interact with Chimr. You can
- Query calendar events
- Join meetings automatically
- Create custom notifications
- Integrate with AI workflows
Q: Is MCP required?
A: No, MCP is completely optional. Chimr works perfectly as a standalone calendar notification app without any MCP configuration.
Privacy & Data
Q: What data does Chimr access?
A: Chimr only accesses
- Calendar events through macOS EventKit
- Basic system information for functionality
- Your preferences and settings
All data stays on your device. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Q: Is my calendar data sent anywhere?
A: No. Chimr operates entirely locally. Calendar data is never transmitted to external servers. The optional feedback feature only sends issue reports, not calendar data.
Performance & Other
Q: The app is slow or using too much memory?
A: Try the following
- Reduce number of synced calendars
- Restart the app
- Check for beta updates in TestFlight
Q: How do I enable auto-start at login?
A: Go to Settings → General and enable "Launch at login"
Q: How do I uninstall Chimr?
A: Simply delete the app from your Applications folder. Settings files are stored at
~/Library/Preferences/com.corrupt952.ding.plist
~/Library/Application Support/Chimr/
